Status: Common
Habitat: Superb starlings are found in savannas and lightly wooded areas with short grass covering. They are normally found below 2 200 meters (7,200 feet) altitude.
Food: Superb starlings eat insects, fruit and berries.
Social System/Behavior: Starlings are found worldwide. In total, there are 108 species, 52 of which are found in Africa. All starlings are medium-sized songbirds with pointed, slightly arched beaks. Many are very colorful and beautiful birds.
They are often found in huge flocks at the end of the breeding season. Oxpeckers are a specialized starling.
The superb starling has a long, warbling song. It is capable of mimicking the song of many other birds.
Nests are varied in shape and location. Some nests are weaver-like twig and grass balls that hang in trees. Others use the nests of other species of birds, while still others nest in holes in tree or cliffs. The female usually lays 4 eggs.
Predators: A variety or raptors, snakes
and small mammalian predators all feed on
this bird.
